TESTIMONIAL Association of Anne G. Helioff and Yasuo Kuniyoshi |
|
I, Sara Kuniyoshi, surviving widow of World Class Japanese-American Artist, Yasuo Kuniyoshi (1889-1953), acknowledge that the late Anne Graile Helioff (Hirschberg), Artist (1910-2001), a naturalized citizen of the United States, enjoyed a long standing professional relationship with my late husband, Yasuo Kuniyoshi. Anne Graile Heliof worked as an apprentice and student of Yasuo Kuniyoshi during his tenure with the Woodstock Artist Association, Woodstock, New York.
Anne Graile Helioff progressed quickly and served as Secretary and President of the Woodstock Artists Association. She became a valued assistant to Yasuo. Anne Graile Helioff's Art Work during the mid 1930's through the late 1940's and beyond exhibit traditional influences learned under the tutolage of Yasuo. The notion of transformation and metamorphosis was central to Yasuo Kuniyoshi's mature aesthetic point of view. In similar fashion, Anne Graile Helioff (Hirschberg) painted in the 'Direction of Reality' and combined objects sufficiently to paint the superimposed idea. Like my late husband's Art Work, the Recognition & Renances of Anne Helioff's paintings posses a great historical and national contribution to the world.
Anne Helioff was extremely fortunate to have worked with Yasuo Kuniyoshi and able to express his influence. This unique artistic synergy yielded a great contribution to early and mid 20th Century American Art.
Respectively,
Sara Kuniyoshi
