Michel Gaudin

Michel Gaudin was bom July 28, 1947 in 'Les Bouches Du Rhone' area in the south of France. He began painting at an early age and displayed a natural gift for expressing his visual impressions in painting. At first he drew landscapes around his native area, later choosing oils as his media. At the age of seventeen he completed his first of 41 oil paintings. Immediately recognized for his talent as an impressionistic artist, he was asked to exhibit his work at a gallery in Gardonne; the exhibit proved most successful. This was a promising start for a young artist: however life had a different plan for Michel, keeping him from painting until 1993.
When Michel returned to art, his style changed markedly, the brush giving way to the palette knife. By varying the palette knives, he boldly sculpts the landscape of France on canvas. In creating this dimensional quality through his use of color, form and texture, Michel invites the viewer's involvement in the incredible beauty and feeling of France.

Michel now lives in Aix-en-Provence at the foot of Sainte Victoire, a region much beloved by Cezanne. In painting, Michel often depicts this area drenched by the Mediterranean sun. His love of Provence inspires him to paint areas dear to the French: the mountains of Var, the lavender and sunflower fields of Vaucluse, the Cote d'Azur, and the primitive beauty of the Calanque area. He also leads us down narrow alleyways of French villages to the quintessential flower shop. We can now live in the South of France vicariously through the artwork of Michel Gaudin.

We take pride in introducing the artwork of Michel Gaudin to the United States.
